Istana Balai Besar is the official residence of the Sultan of Kelantan. Years existence of the Kota Bharu town similar to the construction of the castle in 1844.  Currently, the Castle ceased to be the official residence of the Sultan of Kelantan, but still used if any ritual and customs official.
